DAYTON FOOTBALL HOSTS DRAKE ON ALUMNI WEEKEND

DAYTON -- The University of Dayton Flyers, 2-2 on the season but undefeated at home, returns to Welcome Stadium to host the Drake Bulldogs in the annual Alumni Reunion Game..  The guests of honor at the Alumni reunion will be the members of the 1996 PFL championship football team, the last UD team to go undefeated.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET
 
UD's 22–man senior class includes 15 fifth-year players.  Captains Chris Beaschler, Ian Palin and Shane Toub are all redshirt seniors.
 
Another fifth-year player, William Will, needs one more field goal to have sole possession of the Dayton career field goal record. Will's 46 FG's ties him with Mike Duvic (1986-89).
 
Drake is coming off a game that it allowed the last 20 points of the game in the fourth quarter, but held off Morehead State 30-28.  Dayton allowed the last 13 points of its game at San Diego, but did not fare as well, losing 34-22.

GOOD NEWS WORTH REPEATING
The Flyers entered the season with the 4th-best winning percentage (.757, 134-43) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (23) at any level of competition in the same time frame.  The top five are Harvard (.805), Montana (.766), North Dakota State (.761), Dayton (.757) and San Diego (.705).

STREAKING
UD has not been shut out in a school-record 447 straight games, the best such active string in all of college football. The last team to shut out the Flyers was Marshall, 9-0, on Oct. 16, 1976. That is also the all-time FCS record.


LIFE'S A BEACH
• Linebacker Christopher Beaschler leads UD with 30 tackles. 
• Beaschler is second with 18 solo tackles.
• He had a season-high 12 tackles at Duquesne.
• On Wednesday, Beaschler was named a national semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy, which is sometimes referred to as the "Academic Heisman


TUNNS OF FUN
• Redshirt freshman Adam Tunnacliffe had five catches for 73 yards and his first career TD at San Diego.

CAPTAIN CHRIS
• Senior Chris Hagan has been designated by the coaches as UD's 2016 special teams captain, succeeding Nick Kaczkowski.
• Hagan had 11 special teams tackles in 2015.
• He picked a fumble by the punter and returned it 31 yards for a TD at San Diego.
• Also this year's starter at the Flyer position, Hagan is second in tackles (29) for UD. 
• He had a team-high 11 tackles (seven solo) with 2.0 TFL at San Diego.

WILL HE WILL?
William Will has 46 career field goals, tied for the career-best at Dayton with 1989 All-American Mike Duvic.  
• Will also ranks third in total points, 63 points behind Duvic's UD-record 326.  Will has scored 84 points in each of the last two seasons.
• In the PFL, Will is second in field goals per game (1.25).
• Will's five touchbacks tie for the PFL best.

DAYTON AND THE CAMPBELL TROPHY
Christopher Beaschler is Dayton's 2016 nominee for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy, the major award of the NFF's Scholar-Athlete Award program (aka, the Academic Heisman).
• UD has had at least a semifinalist for 10 straight years.  
• Among D-I schools, the Flyers are one of five institutions with a semifinalist in the last 10 years. The others are Austin Peay, Bucknell, Montana and Rutgers.
• In 2007, safety Brandon Cramer was one of 15 finalists for the trophy.  As a finalist, he earned an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship.
• Cramer was also the 2007 Division I football Academic All-American of the Year.


UP NEXT
• Dayton' remains home on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a game against Morehead State.  Game time is 1 p.m. ET.  It will be Dayton's annual "Pink" game, promoting Breast Cancer Awareness.
