NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its regional rankings Monday with the University of Dayton men's program achieving its highest ever ranking of ninth in the Great Lakes Region.
"We have had a strong showing at our first two meets this season, and the Great Lakes Regional ranking reflects that," said head coach
Jason Ordway. "We will continue to work to defend the position and move up when racing against our competition as the season progresses. The team is focused and looking forward to the challenge."
The Flyers moved up from No. 15 last week to No. 9 this week after winning the 2017 National Catholic Invitational hosted by Notre Dame this past weekend. Dayton defeated the likes of Notre Dame (No. 9 GL), Marquette (No. 12 GL), and Duquesne (No. 7 MA). It marks the highest ranking ever for the Flyers after reaching as high as No. 10 in last season's regional rankings.
UD has now won its first two meets of the 2017 season pairing the victory at that National Catholic Invite with the win at the Queen City Invitational.
Next up, the Flyers will return to Cedarville University to compete at the All-Ohio Championships on Sept. 29.
