The Dayton men's tennis team opened up its season on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Toledo. The Flyers got off to a strong start by earning a 1-0 advantage after two victories in doubles play. Seniors
Zach Berry and
Carsten Fisher trailed Danilo Vukotic and Reid Teatsorth by a 4-3 margin before rattling off three straight games to take a 6-4 victory on court one. Freshman Theo Jener and junior
Jordan Benjamin also rallied back from a deficit to earn a victory in No. 2 doubles. What They're Saying
Freshman Theo Jener
On the importance of starting the season strong:
"Coming in as a freshman, it was important to me to get a win in both doubles and singles to give me some confidence, which I can continue to build on later, but it was also important just for the team to get a lot of wins today. Going forward, we just want to keep winning – we have confidence that we can compete and win against everybody on our schedule. We just want to step on the gas and keep going. We have so many talented guys that we have a chance to have a special season."
Junior Lorenzo Rollhauser
On clinching the match and starting off the season with a win:
"I actually didn't know at the time that my match was the clincher, but it felt good to be the one to give us the win once my teammates told me. We were excited coming here for the season opener. With it being the first match of the year, I think we started out a little tight, but I thought the whole team played well and we delivered with a win.
