DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads east to take on the No. 9/10 Maryland Terrapins Sunday at 2 p.m. ET at the Xfinity Center.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the contest with a 1-0 record overall after defeating Colgate in the season opener Friday. The Flyers are coming off a 23-7 season last year in which they won their third A-10 title in the past two seasons and an 11th straight postseason berth.
Head coach
Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and enters her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 46-17 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program, but Coach Green has multiple new faces on this year's roster. As a team, the Flyers are scoring 67.0 points per game and holding opponents to 58.0 each outing. Dayton shoots 40.3 percent from the floor, 10.5 percent from three-point range, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.

SCOUTING MARYLAND
Maryland hosts the Flyers with a 1-0 record on the season after crushing Coppin State in its season opener. The Terps are ranked ninth and 10th in the respective poles and coming off a 26-8 season last year where they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 17th season at Maryland and boasts a .783 winning percentage and 430 victories in charge of the Terps.
Maryland is averaging 93.0 points per game and giving up just 36.0 to opponents. The Terps shoot 38.6 percent from the floor, 28.6 percent behind the arc, and 70.8 percent from the charity stripe. They also benefit from a +32.0 rebounding margin and +12.0 turnover margin.
Leading UM is Taylor Mikesell with 18.0 points and 4.0 assists per game while Shakira Austin is adding 12.0 points and 21.0 rebounds per game. Stephanie Jones is also a duel threat with 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds each outing.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton picked up a 67-58 win at home in the season opener over Colgate Friday for School Day. The Flyers surged in the fourth quarter and earned the victory with three players scoring in double figures. Redshirt junior

Maryland powered its way to a 93-36 victory over Coppin State in the Terps' season opener, holding CSU to just seven points in the second quarter and four points in the fourth quarter. Taylor Mikesell led Maryland with 18 points while Stephanie Jones chipped in 17 points and 12 rebounds.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Maryland have played twice previously with both teams picking up a win, but have not played since 2001 when the Flyers defeated the No. 25 ranked Terps, 56-53 at home.

CANNATELLI SETS THREE-POINT MARK

Lauren Cannatelli set her second Dayton school record last season by hitting her 79th three-pointer of the year on Feb. 24 at Saint Louis. The Cincinnati native surpassed former Flyer
Andrea Hoover by making her 79th three-pointer of the campaign, joining her single-game record of 10 made three's from earlier last season.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 538 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 89 of its last 108 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.832), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
70'S THE MAGIC NUMBER
Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 147-16 (.903) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.

PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites Duquesne. With two first-place votes and 183 points, the Flyers were picked ahead of Fordham, George Washington, and Saint Joseph's.

Jayla Scaife was named First Team All-Conference as well as All-Defensive Team while senior

WE'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE
On Dec. 9, 2017, the Flyers played in front of 9,007 fans at UD Arena while hosting Toledo. The season-best crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD's annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,605, Dayton ranked 48th out of 349 DI programs. This year's School Day game against Colgate in the season opener had 8.811 fans in attendance.
NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE

Maddy Dennis was a member of the 2015 U-19 Australian National Team that won a bronze medal at the 2015 U-19 FIBA World Championship. She was also a member of the 2013 and 2014 U-17 Australian National Team.

NEW TO THE STAFF

Shauna Green announced two new additions to the coaching staff for the 2017-18 season in assistant coach DeAntoine "Cat" Beasley and video coordinator and recruiting assistant
Will Alton.
Beasley comes to Dayton after a three-year stint as an assistant for the Gardner-Webb men's basketball team. There he helped guide the Bulldogs to winning seasons each year, including a 19-win season in 2017-18. GWU also had three All-Big South selections and the highest team GPA in nine seasons. Prior to his time at Gardner-Webb, Beasley served as an assistant coach at Pensacola State College in Florida, helping the Pirates finish 21-11 and win their 15th Panhandle Conference title. He also has coaching experience at Chattanooga, Tennessee Tech, and Auburn. Beasley had a seven-year professional career playing in England where he was a perennial All-Star, MVP in the National Trophy race in 2004, and received the 2004 BBC Sports Personality Award for the Southwest Region. After completing his playing career, Beasley began his coaching career at University of St. Mark and St. John, where the team won national titles in 2003 and 2004.
Alton comes to Dayton after serving as an assistant coach at the UMass Lowell. There he helped with video and recruiting as well as on-the-court training. He also has previous experience at Kentucky as the video coordinator, with the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA, and his alma mater, Penn State-Abington. Earning a bachelor of arts degree in corporate communication, Alton graduated from Penn State-Abington in 2012 after being a three-year starter on the men's basketball team.
