NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their all-region awards on Monday and honored a pair of University of Dayton men's cross country runners.
Seniors
Spencer Danielson and
Chris Negri were named Great Lakes All-Region after finishing 17
th and 25
th respectively and guiding the Flyers to an eighth-place team finish last week.
"Danielson and Negri have been crucial to the success we've seen as a team over the past four years," said head coach
Jason Ordway. "They have both been incredible leaders and have left a lasting impact on this team. It was a very proud moment to see them have such success during the final cross country race of their careers. As a coach, you always hope to have your team ready for the post season, and these two seem to show up every time we need them."
Both student-athletes were named Academic All-Conference and All-Conference this season as well. They led a talented senior class that won their third straight Atlantic 10 Championship, the first three-peat in program history.
Dayton defended its title after a strong season that saw a first-place finish at the Queen City Invitational, a second-place finish at the National Catholic Invitational, and a sixth-place finish at the Joe Piane Meet. Danielson and Negri end their stellar careers as multi-All-Conference honorees and academic award winners.
