COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's track and field team took part in the two-day Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State Friday and Saturday.

Highlights

• Junior Emily Borchers finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:26.73, more than 20 seconds better than her previous PR. The time is also second-best all-time at Dayton. It's also the best time in the Atlantic 10 this year. Fellow junior Allison Triskett finished third in the third-best time in UD program history 10:30.60; her previous PR was 10:44.14. It's the third fastest time in the A-10 this year as well. Senior Grace McDonald also finished in the Top 5.
• Sophomore Jamie Rachek finished second in the high jump with a PR height of 1.68m, which is just outside of Dayton's all-time Top 5 (1.69m is the fifth-best mark and 1.72m is the record).
• Sophomore Lillian Cook was third in the javelin with her distance of 44.59 and senior Sarah Sepanski was 10^th with a PR of 39.94.
• Senior Jenni Rossi finished fourth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
• Senior Leah Frischmann was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 3.82m and freshman Kim Spritzky was ninth, tying her PR of 3.56m.
• The Flyers had 10 PRs at the meet.

"We had a great weekend at the Jesse Owens Classic. The competition was great, the weather cooperated, and we took advantage of the situation to compete for quite a few season and personal bests in every event area. 

In the distance events, I'm particularly pleased with Emily Leonard, Chloe Flora, and Nicole Steinbicker in the 5k, as well as, Emily Borchers and Allison Triskett in the steeplechase, having all run PRs. Borchers and Triskett may have times that qualify them for the regional meet. Freshman Emma Jankowski, winning her heat was a great race effort as well. 

In the field events, our pole vaulters, Leah Frischmann and Kim Spritzky, got great looks and experience attempting heights. Jamie Rachek had a great collegiate PR in the high jump, and our throwers got a chance to compete against some tough competition in a bigger meet environment. This will all serve us well into the postseason. 

We have one more invitational at Miami (OH) prior to the A-10 Conference Championship and everything appears to be coming together at the right time."
