Box Score Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Dayton men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday with a 4-0 loss to the University of Miami. The Flyers finish the regular season with a 16-6 record, while Miami improved to 14-11 overall. The Hurricanes have won four matches against ranked opponents this season, providing Dayton an opportunity to match up with a strong foe as they preparation of next week's Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.
Zach Berry and
Carsten Fisher started the match off strong with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, but Miami hung tough and battled to win courts two and three to clinch the doubles point.
Will Harper and
Simon Jayaram dropped their match at No. 3 by a 7-5 margin to even up the score at 1-1, while
Lorenzo Rollhauser and
Steven Karl fell in a tiebreaker in court two to give the opening point to the Hurricanes. Rollhauser and Karl had an opportunity to take the match with a deuce point while leading 6-5, but Christian Langmo and Niclas Genovese of Miami took the deuce point and then won the breaker by a score of 7-4.
After dropping the doubles point in heartbreaking fashion, Dayton got off to a slow start in singles play, as
Will Harper was the only Flyer to take his opening set at the No. 6 spot in the lineup. The top three players in the Hurricane lineup each scored straight set victories to give Miami three more points and clinch the match.
Up next for Dayton will be the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships in Orlando, Fla. from April 25-29.
