Box Score DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team hosted Nebraska for Senior Night on Sunday, but dropped the match by a score of 4-2. Despite the team loss, each of the seniors came away with at least one positive win on the night.
Zach Berry and
Carsten Fisher teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a convincing 6-2 victory over Linus Erhart and Toby Boyer, who entered the match ranked No. 81 in the country in the most recent ITA National Rankings. Fisher won his singles match in straight sets by a score of 7-5, 6-3, while fellow senior
Simon Jayaram also won in straight sets by a 6-3, 6-4 margin.
Dayton and Nebraska split on courts one and two in doubles, with Berry and Fisher coming out victorious on court one, and the opening point of the match came down to court three, where
Lorenzo Rollhauser and
Steven Karl pushed opponents William Grattan and Micah Klousia all the way to a tiebreak, but ultimately fell just short, losing 7-6 in the deciding doubles match.
Appropriately for Senior Night, seniors
Carsten Fisher and
Simon Jayaram highlighted Dayton's performance in singles play with a pair of straight set victories. Nebraska scored wins at courts three, four and five to secure the final three points needed to win the match. Junior
Jordan Benjamin won his first set by a score of 7-6 (4), and was in the middle of his second set of play when the match was halted due to Nebraska clinching.
Dayton's next match will be on Wednesday, April 11, when the Flyers travel to Richmond, Ky. to take on Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m.
