Track And Field Are Runners-Up At A-10 Outdoor Championship

Jenni Rossi Was Named Most Outstanding Field Performer Of The Meet

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton finished as runners-up at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

This marks the fifth time the Flyers have finished second and is their highest finish since 2011. Senior thrower Jenni Rossi led the way with two first place finishes (hammer and shot put) and a third place finish (discus).  She was named Most Outstanding Field Performer of the A-10 Championship, earning that honor for the second time in the outdoor season (she also won the honor in 2016) and fourth overall including the indoor season (2016 and 2018 seasons).

VCU won the championship with 159 points. Dayton had 109 points to edge out defending champion George Mason for second place. The Patriots finished third overall with 107 points. The rest of the finishing order was: Massachusetts (93.5 points), Rhode Island (77 points), Davidson (64.5 points), Saint Joseph's (60 points), Duquesne (50 points), La Salle (47 points), Richmond (38 points), Saint Louis (25 points), Fordham (24 points), and George Washington (four points).

Head Coach Jason Ordway's Quote:
"We had a fantastic 2018 A-10 Outdoor Championship. All of our student-athletes rose up to the challenge of the event through competing, supporting one another, and fighting until the end. That tenacity enabled us to edge out a competing program for the No. 2 spot by two points. We saw what it takes to be successful and we know areas to improve in the future to get closer to that top spot. We have a very young team and this experience will grant us the opportunity to improve into next season.

"We had 10 all-conference performances, four individual titles, and Rossi received Outstanding Field Performer of the championship."
