DAYTON â University of Dayton men's tennis head coach
Ryan Meyer announced that Ronit Hiryur has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Flyer men's tennis team. Hiryur has been ranked as high as No. 59 by National Tennis Recruiting, No. 1 in USTA Ohio Valley, and No. 5 in the USTA Midwest.
"Ronit is one of the best players in Ohio. For us to get a kid in our backyard is huge, especially when we were up against the Big Ten and Ivy League," said Meyer. "We are looking forward to what Ronit will bring to the program in August."
Hiryur, of West Chester, Ohio, has played three years on the varsity tennis team at St. Xavier for coach Jason Woods, with the upcoming 2020 season still to play. He is a three-time Greater Catholic League Player of the Year. As a junior he had a 25-4 record, was a OHSAA State Singles finalist, and named OTCA All-Ohio First Team.
"Signing to play tennis at UD means a lot me, because it proves that all the hours on court and the hundreds of matches that I've played over the past few years have really paid off," said Hiryur. "I'm grateful that Coach Meyer saw my potential as a member of his team, and for the opportunity he has given me to be a Flyer. There's a great group of guys on the team, and I can't wait to compete with them for the next four years!"
He has three times been named a GCL and GCTA First Team Singles player, as well as OTZ All-Ohio all three years. He was the St. Xavier MVP in 2017 and 2019, leading the Bombers to three consecutive GCL conference championships.
Hiryur is a National Merit semifinalist and three-time first honors recipient and will major in chemical engineering at UD.
In addition to excelling in tennis and academics, Hiryur was also a swimmer, helping Beckett Ridge to the Tri-County Swim League Championship, and was also a competitive speed skater.
