
CONWAY, S.C. – The teams for the 2020 Myrtle Beach Invitational were revealed today and the University of Dayton men's basketball team is featured, along with Charlotte (Conference USA), Loyola (Missouri Valley), Missouri (Southeastern), Nebraska (Big Ten), Penn (Ivy), Pittsburgh (Atlantic Coast), and Utah State (Mountain West). Â
The third annual Myrtle Beach Invite, an in-season collegiate basketball tournament, will take place Nov. 19, 20 and 22 in 2020 at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
The Myrtle Beach Invitational will mark the 13th consecutive exempt tournament for the Flyers, another opportunity for UD to enhance its non-conference schedule and increase national attention.Â
Entering this week's play, the Flyers are 3-0 and receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. Utah State is ranked 15th in the AP poll. Dayton, Loyola and Nebraska competed in the 2019 National Invitational Tournament. Loyola is two seasons removed from its 2018 appearance in the NCAA Men's Final Four.Â
The appearances by Charlotte and Pittsburgh mark the third-straight year schools from Conference USA and the ACC have competed in the Myrtle Beach Invitational.Â
The Big Ten, Ivy League and Mountain West will be represented in the event for the first time.Â
The Atlantic 10, Missouri Valley, and SEC will have a school competing for the second time.Â
Owned and operated by ESPN, this year's Myrtle Beach Invitational, being played this week at the HTC Center, features Baylor (Big 12), Coastal Carolina (Sun Belt), Middle Tennessee (Conference USA), Mississippi State (SEC), Ohio (Mid-American), Tulane (American Athletic), Utah (Pac-12), and Villanova (BIG EAST).Â
UCF captured the inaugural Myrtle Beach Invitational title in 2017 by defeating Western Kentucky 78-62 in the championship game at the HTC Center.Â
The Flyers are competing in the 2019 Maui Jim Maui Invitational eight-team field and Dayton starts off with Georgia on Monday, Nov. 25 at 2:30 p.m. Then Dayton will play Nov. 26 with a matchup against either Michigan State or Virginia Tech. The invitational concludes Nov. 27 and possible opponents for the Flyers are BYU, Chaminade, Kansas, and UCLA.
