KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Dayton men's basketball players
Ryan Mikesell and
Jack Westerfield were both named today to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2018-19 NABC Honors Court.
Mikesell and Westerfield were two of the four student-athletes from the Atlantic 10 who were honored today. Â Nick DeClementi of George Mason and Toliver Freeman of Saint Joseph's were the other two. Â Both earned their undergraduate degrees in May.
The NABC Honors Court was created to recognize academic achievement at all levels of men's college basketball. Â To be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better, and have attended his school at least one academic year.
Westerfield, a four-year walk-on, recently completed his Flyer career. Â A Finance major, He was a member of A-10 Academic Honor Roll, UD's All-Academic Team and a team representative on UD's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Mikesell is a returning starter for Dayton coming up in the 2019-20 season. Â After missing all of the 2017-18 season following double hip surgery, he bounced back to start 32 of 33 games played in 2018-19 and averaged 10.1 points a game.. Â A 2018-19 co-captain, he led the team in FT%, and ranked second in blocks, assists and steals, third in FG% and fourth in scoring and rebounding. Â He was named Atlantic 10 All-Academic last year. Â He is a Mechanical Engineering major.
