DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads back out on the road to take on Massachusetts Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 17-7 on the year and 10-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are on a 12-game winning streak and 7-2 in away games this season.
Head coach
Shauna Green is in her fourth season in charge of the Flyers and already has two tournament and one regular season conference titles, as well as being the former A-10 Coach of the Year in 2018. She recently earned her 100th career victory.
As a team, the Flyers are scoring 65.3 points per game and holding opponents to 58.1 points to opponents. UD is shooting 38.2 percent overall, 33.8 percent from three, and 71.2 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers have a +2.3 rebounding margin and +2.5 turnover margin.
Dayton is led by senior
Jayla Scaife who is averaging 13.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while redshirt junior
Erin Whalen is adding 12.9 points and 5.0 boards each outing.
SCOUTING MASSACHUSETTS
Massachusetts hosts Dayton with a 16-8 record on the season and a 6-5 A-10 mark. The Minutewomen are on a two-game losing streak, but are 9-4 at home this season.
Head coach Tory Verdi is in his fourth year at UMass.
This season, UMass is scoring 67.9 points each outing and allowing just 59.5 points to opposing squads. The Minutewomen are shooting 40.1 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent from behind the arc, and 68.9 percent from the charity stripe. UMass has a +2.0 rebounding margin and +4.6 turnover margin.
Leading the Minutewomen is Sam Breen with 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while Hailey Leidel is contributing 16.0 points and 3.8 rebounds each contest.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton won its 12th game in a row with a 71-60 victory over Rhode Island Sunday at UD Arena.
Jenna Giacone had a team-high 16 points and hit three threes.
UMass lost its second straight game with a 69-64 loss to Fordham Saturday at home. The Minutewomen had three players in double figures led by Sam Breen with 21 points.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Massachusetts have played 26 times previously with the Flyers winning 15 times and the Minutewomen winning 11 times. UD has won the last three meetings including last year's meeting on Jan. 9 75-47 at UD Arena.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
The Flyers rank 50th in the country in scoring defense and 55th in field goal percentage defense. Individually,
Shakeela Fowler ranks 42nd in the nation in free throw percentage and ranks second in the A-10.

Dayton has not allowed an opponent to score more than 60 points since its first win of the 11-game winning streak against East Carolina on Dec. 21.
SCAIFE NAMED A-10 POW
Senior forward
Jayla Scaife earned her first A-10 Player of the Week honors on Jan. 27 after averaging 20.5 points an 9.0 rebounds in Dayton's two wins over George Washington and Fordham.
STARTING THE NEW YEAR OFF RIGHT
In Coach Green's four year tenure at UD, the Flyers are 28-2 in the month of January including perfect marks in 2016-17, 2017-18, and this season as well.
FLYERS BY 40
Dayton defeated La Salle on Jan. 4, 2020 in the A-10 opener 98-58, the first 40-point win for the Flyers since defeating La Salle on Feb. 22, 2015, 91-49, at home. Dayton scored 94+ points in two of three straight games.
CHALLENGED EARLY AND OFTEN
Dayton created one of the hardest non-conference schedules in program history, taking on three nationally ranked teams in the first seven games, and facing numerous 2019 NCAA Tournament participants. The Flyers have already played No. 6 South Carolina, No. 4 UConn, No. 21 Gonzaga, three-peat MAC Champions Central Michigan, and former NCAA participants Northeastern, Auburn, and Maine.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 109 of its last 134 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.812), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 593 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites and reigning A-10 Champions VCU. The Flyers were tabbed to finish ahead of Fordham (2019 A-10 Tournament Champions) and Saint Louis.
PRESEASON HONORS
The Atlantic 10 released its preseason all-conference teams and recognized senior
Jayla Scaife as First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team. She was the lone Flyer honored preseason.
