DAYTON – University of Dayton men's basketball coach
Anthony Grant earned a trifecta of Coach of the Year honors on Tuesday. Grant was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches, United States Basketball Writers Association District V Coach of the Year in a vote of the USBWA membership, and was named National Coach of the Year by The Sporting News.
Grant has driven his team to a school-record 29 wins. UD's 29-2 record has earned the Flyers to a No. 3 ranking in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. Dayton is the highest-ranked team in District V, which includes teams in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. After being picked to finish third in the A-10, UD was the first team to go 18-0 in the conference in 35 years.
The Flyers enter the post-season on a 20-game win streak, currently the longest winning streak in Division I. The 20-game streak matches the longest in the same season in Dayton basketball history, matching the 20-gamer in 1951-52.
UD will begin play in the Atlantic 10 championship tournament on Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Flyers earned a bye to the quarterfinals, and will play the winner between UMass and VCU. Game time is 12 noon ET.
