DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team heads out on the road this weekend, for arguably one of the most crucial matches of the season, as they will be in Richmond, Virginia to take on the first-place VCU Rams. Bringing their four-match winning streak on the road, the Flyers could bring themselves into a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10 with a victory over the Rams on Sunday afternoon.
Dayton enters Sunday's contest with a 7-4-2 overall record, with a 4-1 record in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers have gotten hot at the right time, winners of their last four matches following a conference-opening loss to Saint Louis on Sept. 19. In that four-match span, the Flyers have outscored their opponents by a total of 12-3, including two clean sheets against La Salle and Davidson. After a back and fourth game against St. Joseph's last Thursday in which the Flyers won 3-2, Dayton hosted George Mason on Sunday for Senior Day, and scored early and often in a 5-1 runaway.
SCOUTING VCU
The Flyers and Rams are very similar statistically, although the Rams (11) have played two less matches than UD (13). The two sides are within a tenth of a point of one another in both scoring average (UD 1.7, VCU 1.6), and opponent's scoring average (UD 0.92, VCU 0.91). VCU boasts a perfect A-10 record of 5-0, with a regular season mark of 9-2. The Rams will return home to face the Flyers Sunday, following their 2-1 overtime victory over UMass last Sunday, Oct. 3. The Rams are led offensively by Samantha Jerabek, who is one of four three-goal scorers for the Rams, but leads the team with 10 points including her four assists.
