Track And Field Has Many Highlights At Gibson Invitational

The Flyers Finished 6th In The Team Standings

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team closed out the three-day Gibson Invitational hosted by Indiana State this evening. The Flyers had 23 PRs at the event. The Flyers finished sixth of 16 teams with 71 points. Bowling Green won the Invitational with 130 points.

Saturday Highlights
  • Senior Kelly Wilker took second place in the 3000m Steeplechase in a time of 11:07.08. 7. Sophomore Kate Lechowicz took 42 seconds off her previous PR to finish in 12:05.52, good for seventh place in the Steeplechase.
  • Freshman Rayana Burns qualified for the finals in the 100m dash with a time of 12.30, competing in her first-ever collegiate 100-meter dash. She finished eighth in the finals.
  • Burns went on to take third place in high jump with a PR of 1.65m.
  • Junior Emily Sreenan finished fourth in the 1500-meter run in a PR time of 4:32.84.
  • Taylor Flight placed fourth in discus with her PR mark of 48.29m which is the fourth-best mark in UD program history.

Friday Highlights
  • Sophomore Casey Bogues broke the University of Dayton record for javelin throw at the Gibson Invitational today at the Gibson Track & Field Complex. Her throw of 49.94m broke her own record she set earlier this year.
  • Senior Corey Rinella racking up 4702 points in the heptathlon, which is second all-time at Dayton. She took second place in three events (high jump, long jump, and javelin) with PRs in the high jump, shot put and 800m run.
  • The Flyers had three place in the Top 5 in the 5000-meter run. Graduate student Lainey Studebaker was runner-up in a time of 16:57.50 which is fifth all-time at UD. Freshman Zoe Chappelle finished fourth and sophomore Melissa Weidner was fifth, both in PR times.
  • Burns was Dayton's top finisher in the 200-meter dash in a PR time of 25.29.
