FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton track and field team broke three school records at the 2021 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted at George Mason Stadium.
The Flyers finished seventh in the team standings with 53.5 points. VCU won the women's team championship with 149 points. Rhode Island won the men's team championship with 184 points.
"Our Flyers had a great weekend competing at the Atlantic 10 Championships across all event groups. While our upperclassmen really led the way for us, we had a great showing by our younger student-athletes," said head coach
Jason Ordway. "Any time you have freshmen coming in and breaking school records, you know you've got something good going. We are very excited for our future and proud of overcoming the last year's adversity."
Sunday Highlights
- Corey Rinella broke the Dayton school record in the heptathlon with 4847 points, surpassing the previous record of 4769 points set by Sarah Sepanski in 2016. Rinella earned a bronze medal in the event. She took seven seconds off her previous 800-meter PR in the final event to secure third place in the heptathlon.
- Freshman Christierra "Cici" Williams broke the UD triple jump record with her mark of 11.98m. She broke the previous mark of 11.91m set by Maddi Schmidt.
- Lainey Studebaker finished fifth and Emily Sreenan was seventh in the 5000-meter run. Earlier in the day Sreenan also placed seventh in the 1500-meter run in a PR time of 4:31.57, just missing out on a UD Top5 time (fifth is 4:30.95).
