NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton freshman men's golfer Jacob Garland has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, his second weekly honor of the fall, as announced by the conference office Friday.

VCU junior Mattias Varjun was named A-10 Golfer of Week. The awards are for tournaments played from Oct. 13-19.

Garland was second in team scoring for Dayton at its annual Flyer Invitational Monday and Tuesday, two strokes behind team-leader Ben Cors. He carded an even-par round of 71 on the first 18, his fifth even-par or better round of the fall and finished with a 227 (71-76-80). Garland, a Nashville, Tenn. native, tied for 27th place among the field of 83 competitors.

Monday and Tuesday's Flyer Invitational closed out the fall portion of Dayton's 2022-23 second. Upon returning from winter break, Dayton will kick off the spring season in Dade City, Florida, with the Earl Yestingsmeier MAC Match Play event. The Flyers will be participating in match play at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club Feb. 6-7, 2023.
