Women's Soccer Gears Up For Top-Three Match-Up Sunday

Flyers And VCU Rams Battle In Clash Of Two Of Top-Three A-10 Teams

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer program will return to action this weekend, as the VCU Rams come to town for a Sunday matinee match-up. Sunday's 1:00 p.m. kick-off from Baujan Field is free to attend, and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

FLYER FACTS
The Flyers (12-1-1, 6-0 A-10) enter the week on their longest winning streak since 2010, having won nine matches straight dating back to Sept. 4 entering Sunday's contest. Defense has been the pinnacle of the Flyers' success this season, as they have combined to produce 10 clean sheets this season. The Flyers average nearly 10 shots on goal per match, but only surrender around four per match to their opponents through 14 matches. Crucial to the defensive focus is senior Mackenzie Lutz, who leads the Flyers in minutes played for the third straight season (1,206 minutes).

On the offensive side, the Flyers also boast the Atlantic 10 leader in shots, shots on goal, and goals in junior Itala Gemelli. Gemelli has been the beneficiary of some great ball movement and passing this season, as two Flyers, Marlee Taylor and Diana Bengino, rank in the top 10 in the A-10 in assists with four. The Flyers average 2.07 goals per match, which ranks second in the A-10 behind only Saint Louis.

SCOUTING VCU
The Rams (5-1-7, 3-0-2 A-10) enter Sunday's match in third place in the conference, just behind Saint Louis. VCU will travel to Baujan Field riding a winning streak of their own, winners of their last three matches dating back to Sept. 22 against St. Bonaventure. The road has not been very kind to the Rams this season, as they have just one win on the road this year with a 1-1-3 record away from Richmond, Va.

The Rams are led on offense by seven goal scorer Kendyl Sarver, who has helped the VCU offense score an average of 1.15 goals per match. Defensively, the Rams are a very disciplined side, with just five yellow cards accumulated as a team through 13 matches played.
