Jake Chisholm Named Finalist For Walter Payton Award

Flyer Co-Captain Only player From the Pioneer Football League On List

STATS PERFORM – University of Dayton senior running back Jake Chisholm is one of 30 football players named today as a finalist for the 2022 Walter Payton Award, which is annually presented to the national offensive player of the year in college football's Division I FCS subdivision.

The Payton Award, which was first presented in 1987 and in its 36th season, is named for legendary running back Walter Payton, who starred at Jackson State as part of his Hall of Fame career. Affectionately known as the Heisman of the FCS, its past recipients include Steve McNair, Tony Romo, Brian Westbrook, Jimmy Garoppolo, Cooper Kupp and Trey Lance.

Chisholm, a two-time FCS All-American and three-time Academic All-American, gained 1,050 yards this season.  He is the first Dayton football player to have three 1,000-yard seasons.  He ended his Flyer football career as UD's all-time record holder in all-purpose yardage (5,063 yards), second in career touchdowns (47) and third in career rushing (3,276 yards).

He led the Pioneer Football League in scoring (102 points) and all-purpose yardage (1,320 yards).  Nationally, he was second in carries (233) and tied for fourth in touchdowns (17).

Chisholm is the only player from the PFL on this year's list of Walter Payton Award finalists.
