Jake Chisholm Named Academic All-American For The Fourth Time

Flyer Running Back Is The First Four-Time Academic All-American In School History

AUSTIN, Texas – For the eighth consecutive year, the University of Dayton football program has a student-athlete named to the CSC Academic All-America Team.  Senior running back Jake Chisholm was named First Team Academic All-America for the third straight year.

Chisholm was also named a Second Team Academic All-American in 2019, making him the first four-time Academic All-American in school history.

Only seven other Flyer student-athletes have earned any sort of Academic All-America recognition three times.  They are baseball's Tom Beechem, cross country's Amy Fleck, and football's Brandon Cramer, David Leisring, Dan Rosenbaum, Brandon Wingeier and Tucker Yinger.

Chisholm's historic selection caps off a fall that saw him named the winner of the FedEx Ground Doris Robinson Award (which goes to the top FCS student-athlete), a finalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy (sometimes known as the Academic Heisman), the Pioneer Football Leagues Scholar-Athlete Award winner (for the second time) and UD's White Allen Most Valuable Player (for the second time).

The two-time Flyer co-captain carries a 3.98 GPA in Pre-Med, with minors in Biology, Chemistry and Medicine In Society.

The Union, Ky. native gained 1,050 yards this season.  He is the first Dayton football player to have three 1,000-yard seasons.  He ended his Flyer football career as UD's all-time record holder in all-purpose yardage (5,063 yards), second in career touchdowns (47) and third in career rushing (3,276 yards).

He led the Pioneer Football League in scoring (102 points) and all-purpose yardage (1,320 yards) 2022.  Nationally, he was second in carries (233) and tied for fourth in touchdowns (17).

This brings the total for Dayton football Academic All-Americans to 66 since the first one in 1970.  The Flyers have had 36 since 2000.

Among schools playing Division I football, only Nebraska (107) has had more Academic All-Americans than Dayton and Penn State's 66.  Notre Dame (61), Ohio State (57) and Oklahoma (55) are next.

In order for a student-athlete to be eligible for Academic All-American recognition, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 (on a scale of 4.00).
