Neena Katauskas Named A-10 Rookie Of The Week

The Freshman Went 3-1 Against UMass And Davidson Over The Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton freshman Neena Katauskas has been named this week's Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week. The freshman went 3-1 in two matches in Charleston, S.C. against conference opponents Massachusetts and Davidson.

This marks the second time in the last three weeks a member of the Dayton women's tennis team has taken home Rookie of the Week honors, with fellow freshman Laura Greb earning the conference award on March 9.

The Flyers played their first two conference matches of the season over the weekend as well as their first outdoor matches of 2022. Katauskas opened the weekend by taking a doubles match against UMass. The freshman paired with sophomore Sarah DeMarco to beat Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima 6-2 in No. 3 doubles. The Chamblee, Ga., native followed that up with a win over Thamonpan Jonglertrakul in No. 3 singles 6-1, 5-7, 1-0.

Dayton finished up the weekend with a match against Davidson, and Katauskas won her tenth singles match of the season again in the third singles flight. The freshman took the match in straight sets from Emma Heiderscheit 6-1, 6-2. Her 10 singles victories leads the team.

UD will head to Pittsburgh for another pair of conference matches, first taking on St. Bonaventure in a neutral-court match on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Flyers will then play a true road match against Duquesne on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at Alpha Tennis & Fitness of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh.
