Football Picked To Finish Fourth In PFL

Defending Co-Champion Davidson Picked First In Coaches Poll

ST. LOUIS - The University of Dayton football team was picked to finish fourth in the Pioneer Football League for the fall 2022 season in a preseason vote of the league's coaches.  Dayton has 12 league championships to its credit in the PFL's 29 seasons.

Dayton, St. Thomas, San Diego and defending champion Davidson were ahead of the rest of the league in the balloting.  Davidson and San Diego were the PFL's co-champions last year, with the Wildcats earning the league's automatic berth in the FCS playoffs courtesy of their regular season win over the Toreros.

Davidson was picked as the favorite to win the 2022 PFL crown with 98 voting points and eight first-place votes.  San Diego was next with 92 and three first-place votes.  St. Thomas was third (78), followed by Dayton (72).

Morehead State (58) and Marist (51) were close behind.  The next grouping was Drake (42), Valparaiso (34), Stetson (33) and Butler (30), followed by Presbyterian (17).

Dayton finished the 2021 season with three consecutive wins (including a season-ending win over Davidson), ending up 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the Pioneer Football League.  The Flyers return six All-PFL performers, headlined by two-time All-American and three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American Jake Chisholm at running back.

The Flyers open the 2022 season at Robert Morris on Saturday, Sept. 3.  Dayton's home opener is on Saturday, September 17 against Kentucky State.  For ticket information, please visit DaytonFlyers.com.
