NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton volleyball junior middle blocker
Amelia Moore was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday, her second-consecutive weekly league honor. The awards are for matches played from Aug. 30 – Sept. 4.
Fordham junior Whitley Moody was named the A-10 Player of the Week and Davidson freshman Emma Slusser was named Rookie of the Week
A native of Ocean Springs, Miss., Moore led the Flyers with 1.67 blocks per set and was second with 3.58 points per set over the weekend as Dayton took part in the GT Invitational, hosted by fifth-ranked Georgia Tech. In a 3-2 loss to Arizona State on Friday, Moore tallied a career-high 10 blocks (2-8) and then recorded 11 kills in the nightcap against Georgia Tech. In the Flyers' 3-1 win over FIU on Saturday, Moore had seven blocks and six digs to go with a season-high 13 kills while swinging at .458.
UP NEXT
The Flyers are set to open the home portion of their 2022 schedule next weekend with the Dayton Invitational Sept. 9-10. The two-day event will consist of six matches at Frericks Center featuring Villanova, Missouri State, No. 25 Illinois and host Dayton. Admission is free.
