DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will look to get their third and fourth wins of the season when they play Marquette at 2 p.m. ET Saturday and DePaul at 12:15 p.m. ET Sunday.
"I'm really looking forward to this weekend's matches," said junior
Erik Eliasson. "The group of guys we have on our team creates a bond like nothing else and our prior wins over Youngstown St. and Purdue really puts us in position to create something special. Now we get the chance to show our potential once again against two really good Big East schools this weekend."
The Flyers enter the match at 2-3 after coming off a crucial victory in a tight contest against Youngstown State on Jan. 22. The Flyers' close win ended with a score of 4-3.
Senior
Connor Bruce continues to be a primary contributor to the Flyers' success as he won both his singles and doubles matches against Youngstown State.
Senior
Matt DeMarco also played well, winning both his singles and doubles matches, and leading the Flyers to tough victory.
Marquette has had a rough start to the new campaign, losing their first two matches. The Golden Eagles started off the year with some tough sledding against Drake University, losing in a very one-sided match 7-0.
Marquette also lost 5-2 to Northern Illinois University on Jan. 22. However, they found some major effort from Ian Brady and Tin Krstulovic, who won the team's only matches of the season so far.
DePaul is 2-2 on the season, dropping matches at Notre Dame and at Wisconsin. The Blue Demons beat IUPUI 6-1 on Jan. 13, and also won 5-2 versus Princeton on Jan. 21.
Marino Jakic is 3-1 on the season at No. 1 singles for DePaul. In the last match, Pablo Almeida clinched the win against Princeton in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
This is the second-ever matchup between Marquette and Dayton. UD won the first contest at home, 4-3 in 2021.
The matchup between Dayton and DePaul is also the second between the two. Dayton lost 5-2 in 2019 in Chicago.
