ABOUT THE FLYBOYS
- Head Coach Jayson King is just one win away from 800 for his coaching career, looking to become the 27th active Division I coach to reach the milestone. King won 21 games in two seasons at UMass Boston to start his career and piled up an incredible 654 wins at Franklin Pierce from 1998 to 2016. Since coming to UD, he has won 124 games and made the A-10 Tournament Championship game twice.
- Not only does senior Ben Jones lead the FlyBoys with a .361 average and on-base percentage of .456, but the Toronto native is also the hardest player in the Atlantic 10 to strike out this season. Jones has just nine strikeouts in 169 at-bats, or just one in every 18.8 plate appearances. He tops the A-10 in the mark and is fourth in the NCAA. He is also averaging .543 on the season when batting leadoff.
- Senior Marcos Pujols has 10 home runs this season and is now sitting on 37 for his career. He needs just one more to move into a tie for second in the all-time history of Dayton baseball, and two more to tie his career-best (12-2021).
- UD sits in sixth place in the Atlantic 10 standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The top seven schools play in the A10 Tournament.
- The UD bullpen has received a fantastic lift thanks to a trio of reliable arms: junior left-hander Luke Baker, junior right-hander Nick Wissman, and fifth-year righty Andrew Zapka. The three have combined for a 1.21 ERA in 29 innings of work on the season.
- Baker made his debut April 12 and has surrendered just three unearned runs over six appearances while striking out seven. Opponents are hitting just .100 against the southpaw, while the Florida native has a WHIP of .39.
- Wissman, the sidearmer, has seen his strikeout numbers spike in his last four appearances, setting down 13 opponents in seven innings of work. He holds a 2.45 ERA on the season, is holding opponents to a .216 batting average and has a WHIP of .99.
- Zapka has emerged as the team's closer and has run his scoreless appearance streak up to seven, dating back to his two-inning outing against George Mason April 7.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
- Wright State overtook first place in the Horizon League this weekend with a sweep of Northern Kentucky, moving to 29-18 overall and 18-6 in the Horizon League. Andrew Patrick leads the Raiders with a .335 batting average, slugging 15 home runs and 16 doubles, boasting an OPS of 1.132. Patrick is also a menace on the base paths, stealing 23 bases in 25 attempts. The pitching staff has an ERA of 5.31 and opponents are hitting .266 against them.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Butler comes into the week with an 11-36 record on the campaign and a 4-11 showing in the Big East. The Bulldogs are coming off a series win at Georgetown. The offense is led by Joey Urban, who has a .292 average and leads the Bulldogs with six home runs. Butler has a team ERA of 7.70 this season and is allowing opponents to hit .299.
