DAYTON – The University of Dayton announced its men's basketball non-conference schedule today, featuring seven home games, three games at the Shriner's Children's Hospital Charleston Classic, Battle4Atlantis, and three other strong games – two road and a neutral site game in Chicago – away from UD Arena.
The Flyers' home slate includes a preseason charity exhibition game against Ohio State on Sunday, Oct. 22, and a more traditional exhibition game Cedarville on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Eight of the 10 regular season opponents on the schedule won at least 19 games in 2022-23. Including the seven potential opponents at the Charleston Classic, 14 of the 17 teams the Flyers could play had .500 records or better last year.
Dayton opens the regular season at home against SIUE on Monday, Nov. 6. The Flyers will play at Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 10, before taking on a strong field at the Shriner's Children's Hospitals Charleston Classic Nov. 16-19.
The bracket for the Charleston Classic will be announced at a later date. Houston, LSU, North Texas, St. John's, Towson, Utah and Wake Forest will join the Flyers in Charleston.
Dayton is back home to face Youngstown State on Friday, Nov. 24. UD will then head to Dallas to take on SMU on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
The Flyers are back home at UD Arena for three games – Saturday, Dec. 2 vs. Grambling State, Wednesday, Dec. 6 hosting UNLV and Saturday, Dec. 9 against Troy.
After exam week, the Flyers will travel to the Queen City to meet Cincinnati at Heritage Bank Arena in the Hoops Classic Presented By Altafiber on Saturday, Dec. 16. UD returns home for a pair of games – Wednesday, Dec. 20 against Oakland, and Saturday, Dec. 30 vs. Longwood to close out the non-conference schedule.
Game times will be announced at a later date, as will the complete Atlantic 10 schedule.
Dayton was 22-12 last season, and finished second in the Atlantic 10 in both the regular season and post-season championship. The Flyers return three starters, including junior forward
DaRon Holmes II, a two-time All-Atlantic 10 and A-10 All-Defensive team pick, and the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 A-10 tournament.
