DAYTON – The University of Dayton football team scored the first 24 points of the game, and the last 14 on Saturday in a 52-20 win over Taylor on Saturday.
UD was led on the ground by
Michael Neel (15 carries, 110 yards, 2 TD), through the air by
Dante Casciola (12 of 18 passing for 277 yards and 2 TD), and on defense by
Ca'ron Coleman (13 tackles, 1 TFL).
Dayton is now 2-1 on the season, while Taylor falls to 1-3.
GAME SUMMARY
First Quarter – Dayton 21, Taylor 0
•   UD scored on three long drives on each of its first three possessions.
•   The Flyers took the opening kickoffs and went 70 yards in five plays, took a punt and needed four plays to drive 63 yards and held Taylor on downs to get the ball back to run five plays and go 75 yards for another TD.

Michael Neel ran 16 yards for the first score,
Luke Hansen took it in from the six for his first career TD, and
Dante Casciola hit
Joey Swanson for a 59-yard touchdown.
•   Dayton gained 193 yards on just 14 plays in the first quarter.
•   Casciola was four-of-five passing for 149 yards.  Each of his passes when to a different receiver.
•  Â
Ca'ron Coleman had six (of his game-high 13) in the first quarter.
Second Quarter – Dayton 31, Taylor 14
•   The Flyers held Taylor on fourth down again, and
Sam Webster made it pay when he drilled a 38-yard field goal.
•   After having series of 13 plays and seven plays with no points, the Trojans needed just two plays to get on the scoreboard.  Damon Hockett hit Dakohta Sonnichsen for a 74-yard TD.
•   Dayton drove into Taylor territory but turned it over on downs, and Taylor went 79 yards in seven plays to make it 24-14.
•   UD answered with a 12-play, 74-yard drive of its own, that began with 1:38 left in the half. Â
•   The key play was a 3rd-and-20 at the Taylor 25 inside the last 25 seconds of the half, where Casciola ran for 19, setting up and 4th down run by
Cole Dow to the two.
•   Dow ran it in from the two with three seconds left in the half.
•   Taylor gained nearly half of its game's 348 yards in the quarter, out-gaining Dayton 163 to 121.
Third Quarter – Dayton 38, Taylor 20
•   After forcing a punt, Dayton scored on its first series.  Neel ran 18 yards for his second score after a nine play, 77-yard drive.
•   Taylor blocked a punt to set up a score on its last possession of the quarter.  The Trojans went 58 yards in five plays.
•   Dayton gained 101 yards in the quarter, with all but seven coming on the ground.
•   Neel carried the ball 10 times for 69 of his game-high 110 yards in the third period.
Fourth Quarter – Dayton 52, Taylor 20
•   The Flyers took the ensuing kickoff and drove 71 yards in seven plays, the chunk play being a 55-yard connection from Casciola to
Gavin Lochow for the score.
•   It only took two plays for Dayton to scored the final TD of the game. On the first play,
Nathan Arthur recovered a Taylor fumble at the 13, and one the second, Dow ran it in for a 13-yard touchdown.
•   Taylor had the ball one more time, needing 17 plays to drive 76 yards (and take 8:50 off the clock) before turning it over on downs at the Dayton 15-yard line.
•   UD moved the ball 77 yards to end the game, needing six plays to get to the Taylor four-yard line, and then taking two knees to end game at the eight.

•   Dayton gained 556 yards in total offense, 303 through the air and 253 on the ground.

Michael Neel had his second consecutive 100-yard day, running the ball 15 times for 110 yards and two scores without touching the ball in the third quarter.

Derek Willits each caught three.
•   Lochow led the Flyers in yards receiving (124) and yards after catch (45).

Aiden McKinley had 10 tackles on the day, and led UD with six solo hits.

Nate Hess each had two QB hurries.

Nathan Arthur came up with UD's only turnover gained, recovering the fumble that set up the last TD of the game.
