DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team heads back out on the road to take on rv Massachusetts Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at Rudd Field.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the week with a 5-1-2 record overall and 1-0-1 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are riding a six-game unbeaten streak dating back to Aug. 25. UD is 1-0-1 in away games this season.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 20th year at Dayton and is the winningest coach in program history. He ranks eighth among active Division I coaches in career wins.
Dayton is averaging 3.00 goals per game and holding opponents to just 1.13 goals each outing. The Flyers are one of the top offensive teams in the country, totaling 20.6 shots per game compared to 10.1 by opposing teams.
Leading the way for the Flyers is sophomore
Martin Bakken with six goals and 13 points, and is coming off his first career hat trick last weekend. Graduate student and defender
Hjalti Sigurdsson is second on the team with five goals, two assists, and 12 points. Fellow grad student
Dario Caetano has 23 saves and two shutouts in eight starts.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
MASSACHUSETTS
Massachusetts is currently tied for second in the A-10 standings with a 2-1 league mark and 6-2-3 record overall. The Minutemen are 3-2 at home this year at Rudd Field and coming off a shutout win over Saint Joseph's Saturday.
Veteran head coach Fran O'Leary is in his 10th season at UMass, but 34th season overall, leading his teams to 21 winning seasons.
As a team, UMass is scoring 2.55 goals each contest and allowing just 1.09 goals to opposing squads. The Minutemen are out-shooting opponents 14.6 to 11.3 and at a higher percentage.
A-10 Player of the Year candidate ranks second in the nation with 10 goals on the year and fifth with 21 points. Matt Cence has contributed six assists to go with a goal as well. Goalkeeper Alex Geczy has 11 starts with a 1.10 goals against average, 32 saves, and a league-high five shutouts.
LAST OUTING
Dayton is coming off a huge 7-1 win over George Washington at home last Saturday, the most goals in a single game for the Flyers since 2015. Bakken scored a hat trick and freshman
Andrew Armstrong had a brace.
Massachusetts defended its home field in a big 4-0 victory over Saint Joseph's last Saturday. The Minutemen scored three goals in the opening 18 minutes and never looked back, outshooting the Hawks 21-8.
SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton ranks second nationally in shots per game and scoring offense while ranking in the top 10 in points per game, goal differential, corner kicks, and shots on goal.
Individually,
Joseph Melto Quiah is sixth in the country in shots per game while
Martin Bakken is 20th in goals per game.
BAKKEN, ARMSTRONG PICK UP A-10 HONORS
The Flyers earned two more A-10 weekly accolades on Oct. 8 with
Martin Bakken being named A-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second time while teammate
Andrew Armstrong was named A-10 Rookie of the Week.

The Flyers return to Baujan Field to host Fordham Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the four departing seniors with a ceremony pregame.
