No. 15/18 Men's Soccer Wraps-Up Regular Season Saturday Night

The Flyers And Billikens Battle For Hosting The A-10 First Round

DAYTON - The No. 15/18 University of Dayton men's soccer team finishes up the regular season Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at home against Saint Louis.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the contest with a four-game winning streak and sites in a tie for fourth in the Atlantic 10 standings. UD would need at least a win or tie to get a chance at hosting a first round contest. The Flyers are 9-2-3 on the year and 4-1-2 in A-10 play.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 20th year at Dayton and is the winningest coach in program history. He ranks eighth among active Division I coaches in career wins.

Dayton boasts one of the most dangerous attacks in the country with 2.93 goals and 20.0 shots per game. The Flyers are holding opponents to 1.21 goals and 10.3 attempts as well.

Leading the way for the Flyers is three-time A-10 Offensive Player of the Week Martin Bakken with eight goals and seven assists for 23 points, ranking third in the league in all three categories. Graduate student Hjalti Sigurdsson has chipped in seven goals and five assists while freshman Andrew Armstrong has four goals in the past two games.  

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT LOUIS

Saint Louis comes to Dayton with a 12-game unbeaten streak and needs a win to have a shot at a share of the A-10 regular season title. The Billikens are 7-2-7 on the season and unbeaten at 4-0-3 in A-10 contests. SLU is 2-2-3 away from home this year.

Head coach Kevin Kalish is in his fifth season at the helm of his alma mater.

As a team, the Billikens are scoring 1.75 goals each outing, but allowing just 0.56 goals to opposing teams, second best in the country. SLU is out-shooting opponents 13.4 to 6.9 and at a higher percentage as well.

The Billikens are led by Luis Lara with a team-high eight goals in 16 games and Seth Anderson with nine assists which ranks fifth in Division I. Goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel has eight shutouts and 30 saves in 15 starts, allowing just nine goals all season.

LAST OUTING
Dayton hosted VCU Wednesday for a makeup game and cruised to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Rams in a rematch of last year's A-10 final. The Flyers got a pair of goals from Andrew Armstrong.

Saint Louis faced Blackburn in the final non-conference and home game of the year, earning a 7-0 win.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton leads the country in shots per game and ranks second in scoring offense, third in points per game, and fourth in shots on goal.

Individually, Joseph Melto Quiah ranks fourth in the nation in shots per game while Martin Bakken is 18th in points, 27th in assists, and 37th in goals.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will find out who they play in the A-10 Championship tournament which begins next weekend.
