Gideon Lampron has been named a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. Â
The Buchanan Award is given annually to the most outstanding defensive player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision. Â It was named in honor of the late Junious "Buck" Buchanan, who starred at Grambling State University. Buchanan was an All-American defensive lineman and the first over-all pick in the 1963 American Football League (AFL) Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lampron, whose legal middle name is ESPN, is the most productive player on the team that has allowed fewest yards (242.9), the fewest passing yards (122.9) and the fewest first downs (12.9) in FCS football this season. Â
The LaGrange, Ohio native is second in FCS in tackles in the backfield (2.1 per game). Â Nationally, he is also tied for sixth in blocked kicks (two total), tied for 13th in fumbles recovered (two total) and tied for 25th in solo tackles (5.1 per game).
He leads UD, and is sixth in the Pioneer Football League, in total tackles (9.0).
Lampron is the second Flyer to be named a Buchanan finalist. Â UD's All-America safety Brandon Easterling was a finalist in 2019.
