RICHMOND, Ky.– The University of Dayton track and field team began their 2025 outdoor campaign at the EKU Springtime Invitational and the Blizzard Buster Invitational, hosted by Miami University Saturday. The distance squad traveled to Oxford while the rest of the team ventured south to Richmond, Kentucky.
The distance runners put on a strong showing as multiple athletes competed in their first collegiate outdoor meet and the team earned multiple top-five finishes, including junior
Marissa Pritchett and sophomore
Bryn Hothem winning their events.
At Eastern Kentucky, UD recorded 17 top-five finishes including wins from
Camryn Thompson,
Jameson Pillifant, and
Casey Bogues. Even more athletes made their collegiate outdoor debuts, several of which, including Pillifant and
Charlotte Deines, earned spots in the top three.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Pritchett started the outdoor season off right for the Flyers as she won the first event of the day at Miami, the 5k, in a time of 18:01.70.
- Hothem earned the second win of the day for the Flyers in the 3k, taking the top spot in an outdoor PR of 10:07.34.
- Thompson finished atop the podium at EKU in the high jump, tying her outdoor PR of 1.55m.
- Pillifant and sophomore Grace Felts took the top two spots in the 400m hurdles, running 1:05.26 and 1:07.74 respectively. The Flyers' duo proved dominant in the race as Felts's runner-up time was 14 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
- It was a strong showing in the thrower's circle for the Flyers as Dayton's throwers earned multiple top-five finishes in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus. In the hammer throw, Maggie Hofner, Anna Yater, and Jillian Yates placed third, fourth, and fifth respectively. In the discus, Yates was the runner-up while Hofner, Yater, and Rebekah Conrad rounded out the top five. Yates and Conrad each got another top-five finish when they placed second and third in the shot put.
- Another three Flyers found their way into the top five in the long jump as Deines, Mia Malito, and Sophia Goluba all made their collegiate outdoor debut, finishing third, fourth, and fifth respectively.
- Raegan Ernst earned the runner-up spot in the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.58.
- The Flyers earned second-place finishes in two relays as the 4x100m and 4x400m teams both earned the runner-up spot.
- All six Flyers in the 1500m at Miami set a new PR. The PR parade was led by Hothem and Olivia Kindbom who both finished in the top ten.
- Dayton's two javelin throwers, Bogues and Daniela Peralta, returned to their primary event finishing first and second at EKU.
