DiMartini - A League of His Own
- Sophomore
Michael DiMartini has already had a year to remember for the Flyers, as he has entered the Dayton record books in multiple categories. DiMartini ranks No. 2 in runs scored in a single season (63), is tied for No. 2 in single season stolen bases (33) and triples (7), and is No. 3 in hits for a single season (85). He is also tied for eighth in single-season RBI total (56).
- The Pittsburgh native is already the first UD baseball player to hit 10+ home runs and steal 30+ bases in a season, and will also attempt to be the first player in program history to hit .400 or better with double-digit homers.
Â
Chasing History
- Two Flyers are attempting to etch their names in the UD record books with their 2025 seasons, as both
Michael DiMartini and
Dyrenson Wouters chase history.
- Wouters has a .417 average with 132 at-bats on the season, giving the junior a chance to join six other Flyers that have hit .400 or better in the 117 years of the program.
- In addition to the single-season records DiMartini is chasing listed above, he also has a .407 batting average through 52 games.
- Dayton has had six individuals hit .400 or better in a season, with Ryan Fleming accomplishing the feat twice. The full list includes:
Terry Elliott (1966 - .510)
Garry Roggenburk (1960 - .500)
Ryan Fleming (1998 - .455; 1997 - .417)
Ted Kramer (1959 - .412)
Brandon Godzik (2004 - .407)
Jimmy Roesinger (2009 - .401).
Â
Freshman Phenom
- Rookie
Rylan Lujo has turned in one of the best statistical seasons for a freshman in program history in 2025, coming into the final weekend of the regular season with a .374/.593/.430 slash line with 16 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. The Coconut Creek, Fla. native has also driven in 54 runs and scored 49 while walking (21) nearly as often as striking out (23).
- For comparison, last year's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year was former Flyer
David Mendez who slashed .342/.505/.442 while hitting nine doubles, two triples and six home runs. Lujo also has more RBI and runs scored than Mendez did, and only trails in stolen bases.
Â
Peguero Saving The Best For Last
- Senior starter
Chris Peguero has posted career-bests in ERA, wins, innings pitched, opponent batting average and strikeouts in his final season as a Flyer.
- Peguero had another strong outing for UD last weekend at Fordham, going seven innings and striking out 10 while scattering seven hits.
- It was the second 10-strikeout performance for the Boston native this season, as it boosted his K/9 to 10.25 on the campaign.
- Peguero's 82 strikeouts on the season are tied for 10th-most in a single season with Dayton Hall of Famer Luke Trubee, who struck out 82 in back-to-back seasons (2005, 2006) as well as Tony Miller, who accomplished the feat in 1991.
Â
Speed Kills
- For the second consecutive season and just the fifth time in program history, Dayton has stolen 100+ bases in a season.
- UD has 111 steals going into its weekend series at Fordham and trails fourth place in the record book by two bags. The top four stolen base seasons are: 2019 (113), 2024 (118), 2011 (121), and 2012 (164).
- Four Flyers have 10+ steals this season, led by sophomore
Michael DiMartini who has 33. Sophomore
Aiden Heberlie has 19 steals, while the freshman duo of
Rylan Lujo and
Ty Mainolfi have 14 and 12, respectively.
