ST. LOUIS – The Pioneer Football League released its Preseason All-Conference teams ahead of the 2025 season and honored multiple University of Dayton student-athletes.
The Flyers had four players recognized on this year's teams including junior
Mason Hackett, junior
Gavin Lochow, and graduate student
Ryan Iiams on offense and redshirt junior
Cam Cope on defense.
Dayton was tied with the most players on the preseason All-PFL offensive team at three, joining Presbyterian and Davidson. Including special teams, Presbyterian had the most honorees at six followed by five from San Diego and four from Dayton and Marist.
Hackett is coming off a Second Team All-PFL season last fall with 11 games played, four touchdowns scored, and three 100-yard games. The Granville, Ohio native led UD with 806 yards on 185 carries for a 4.3 ypc average.
Lochow was another Second Team All-Conference honoree last season as well as First Team Academic All-PFL, Academic All-District, and was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member. The junior receiver totaled five touchdowns and 488 yards on 59 receptions in 11 games in 2024.
Iiams is entering his third season at UD this fall and will be team captain after starting all 11 games he appeared in last year. The Springboro native earned PFL Honorable Mention honors the past two seasons and received the Mike Kelly/Rick Chamberlin Mental Toughness Award in 2024.
Cope will serve as a co-captain in 2025 as well after starting all 10 games he appeared in last season while earning Honorable Mention All-PFL and to the Academic Honor Roll. The Cincinnati native led the Flyers with six passes batted down.
The 2025 season will kick-off on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at Eastern Illinois. The PFL campaign begins for the Flyers on Sept. 27 at home against Stetson.
UD was recently picked to finish fifth in the PFL preseason poll with San Diego, Drake, and St. Thomas picked as the three favorites.
