KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Senior Cross Country runner
Owen Pukys continued his ferocious comeback campaign Friday when he won the George Dales Invitational at Western Michigan University in a personal best time of 24:31.3. The impressive performance from the Louisville, Ohio native comes after a 5k PR and top-ten finish at the season-opener at Miami University three weeks ago, which was his first race back from missing the entirety of last season.
Pukys's win led the Flyers to a third-place team finish at the event, which featured nine teams from Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. Dayton has now recorded top-three team finishes in each of its first two meets.
Following Pukys for the Flyers was Freshman
Alex Bendaña, who finished 12
th in a time of 25:15.5. Closely behind him was Sophomore
Logan Arnold in 15
th with a PR time of 25:27.7. Two Freshmen,
Kamden Kramer and Tyler Guinipero, finished out the scoring places for UD, coming 16
th and 20
th overall in their 8k debuts. Sophomore
Gerrit Dam also recorded a new personal best, crossing the finish line in 26:35.4.
