NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second consecutive season University of Dayton volleyball took home the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Coach, Player and Setter of the Year awards, as announced by the league office on Thursday. A total of six Flyers were on All-Conference teams as UD also made up three of the seven Academic All-Conference selections.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Krabacher was named A-10 Player of the Year, junior setter Samantha Selsky the A-10 Setter of the Year and Head Coach Kelly Sheffield the A-10 Coach of the Year. Sophomore middle blocker Megan Campbell joined Krabacher and Selsky as First Team All-Conference selections. Senior outside hitter Yvonne Marten and junior libero Paige Vargas were Second Team selections. Freshman middle Isolde Hannan was listed on the All-Rookie Team.

Campbell, Marten and Krabacher were listed among seven players in the A-10 to be named Academic All-Conference.

The total of six players honored from Dayton – none of which were on last season’s First, Second, Honorable Mention or Rookie Teams – is the most in program history.

Head Coach Kelly Sheffield was voted Coach of the Year for the second time in as many seasons after guiding the Flyers to win the A-10 regular season title for the ninth time – third consecutive season under his watch – despite losing four 2010 First Team All-Conference players to graduation after last season. On Nov. 11 Sheffield became the fastest coach in UD history to eclipse 100 wins at the school, doing so in 127 matches. He holds an overall 54-4 regular season conference record in his four seasons at Dayton, including wins in 39 of the last 40 matches against A-10 opponents.

Krabacher earned A-10 Player of the Year honors for the first time after leading the A-10 in kills per set and points per set – both overall and during conference play only. The Cincinnati native ranks 14th nationally in kills per set and 16th nationally in points per set. Krabacher is the only outside hitter in the conference to rank in the top 10 in hitting percentage during conference play with a .313 clip on 563 swings. Her career-high 28 kills came against No. 7 Illinois. She is a four-time A-10 Offensive Player of the Week, Blue & White Classic (Buffalo) MVP.

It is Krabacher’s first All-Conference recognition of any kind since being named to the All-Rookie Team in 2009. With a 3.6 grade point average as a chemical engineering major, Krabacher was one of three Flyers named to the Academic All-Conference team.

Selsky was named A-10 Setter of the Year as the league’s leader is assists while guiding UD’s offense to numbers not yet seen in program history. Under Selsky’s leadership, the Flyers are on track to set a program-record .285 team hitting percentage – which ranks fifth in the nation this season. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native features nine double-doubles and became the first Division I player to record a triple-double in 2011 with 10 kills, 44 assists and 13 digs at No. 7 Illinois.

Campbell earned First Team All-Conference after putting up dominating numbers during the regular season as the A-10’s leader in hitting percentage and blocks per set. The Versailles, Ohio native has the fifth-best hitting percentage in the nation at .422 – well on her way to setting a Dayton single-season record. As the A-10 leader in blocks with 1.42 blocks per set and 138 total, Campbell features 14 matches with five or more blocks. She is a four-time A-10 Defensive or Offensive Player of the Week, Capital One Academic All-District First Team and was the Country Inn & Suites Classic (Green Bay) MVP.
With a 3.8 grade point average in mathematics, Campbell was one of three Flyers named to the Academic All-Conference team.

Vargas earns her first All-Conference recognition as a Second Team selection – ranking second in the conference in digs per set. The Naperville, Ill., native helped guide UD to hold opponents to a conference-best .096 opponent hitting percentage during conference matches only. The two-time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week features two matches with 30 or more digs, including a career-high of 35 at Green Bay on Aug. 27.

Marten is also a Second Team All-Conference selection as Dayton’s lone senior and team captain. The Fortville, Ind., native is averaging 2.71 kills per set, has five double-doubles and recorded 10 or more kills is 11 matches this season. Marten recently recorded a career-high 20 kills at Xavier on Nov. 4. Marten is a Capital One Academic All-District First Team honoree this season.

With a 3.81 grade point average in pre-dentistry Marten is one of three Flyers named to the Academic All-Conference team.

As Dayton’s only starting freshman, Hannan breaks onto the conference scene as an All-Rookie selection. Her 93 blocks leads all A-10 freshmen and is the second-most on a team which leads the A-10 in blocks per set. The Dublin, Ohio native ranks fourth in blocks per set during conference play only. She was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 24. Hannan has played in all of Dayton’s 97 sets and 28 matches.

Dayton (22-6, 14-1 A-10) will be the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship held at the Frericks Center beginning Friday. With a bye, UD’s first match will be on Saturday at 5 p.m., against George Washington or Duquesne.

Tickets for the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship can be purchased at the Frericks Center gate or by contacting the Dayton Athletics Ticket Office at (937) 229-4433.

Notes
-In his fourth season at Dayton, Kelly Sheffield is the only coach in UD history to win multiple A-10 Coach of the Year honors. Overall, it is Sheffield’s fourth conference Coach of the Year award with two from the A-10 (2010, 2011) and two from the American East (2004, 2006).
-Dayton has had the(an) A-10 Player of the Year in seven of the last nine seasons.
