The University of Dayton men's tennis team traveled to Wittenberg University to compete in the 2004 Wittenberg Fall Invitational. The Flyers kicked off their season with an impressive performance.
The entire team won all their singles matches that they competed in. The doubles team also had an impressive start to their season and won all but one match. Senior Jon Khoury (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills) was at top finisher with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the first round and a 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, win in the second and third rounds. Khoury also competed in the doubles with partner Peter Oakes were they won both matches 8-1, 8-5.
Also having impressive wins were junior Jamison Downs (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) who went 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles with partner sophomore Rex Cabrera (Hoffman Estates, IL/Barrington). Cabrera also went undefeated in singles. Sophomore Tom Murphy (Carmel, IN/Cathedral) won three singles matches and partnered with freshman James O'Connell (Toledo, OH) to sweep their doubles matches. O'Connell also won three singles matches.
The Flyers next match will be at home against Cedarville College September 17. Play will begin at 2 p.m. at the NCR Old River Courts.
