DAYTON - With a two goals and an assist from junior Reba Sedlacek (Hamilton, OH), the 28th-ranked University of Dayton women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over the University of Massachusetts Friday night at Baujan Field. The Flyers have now won 13 consecutive matches and improve to 13-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Minutewomen fell to 4-8-0, 2-4-0.
Senior MF Tesia Kozlowski (Westerville, OH) put the Flyers on the board first just 4:53 into the match with her third goal of the season. Kozlowski headed a free kick from senior MF Jen Simonetti (Copley, OH) past UM goalkeeper Kristen Walker from close range to put UD up 1-0.
The Flyers had a great chance to make it 2-0 just minutes later but Blackwell saved a penalty kick by junior D Alicija Bredlo (Burlington, Ontario). The save was one of nine on the night for Walker, who was replaced in the 66th minute by Kalani Blackwell.
A crowd of 555 braved the brisk evening and watched UD extended its lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute, with the third goal of the season by junior MF Katie Lowstuter (Cincinnati, OH). Lowstuter pounded home a rebound from eight yards out after Walker saved an initial shot by Sedlacek. Sedlacek was credited with her fourth assist of the season.
After taking the 2-0 lead to the half, the Flyers tacked on a pair of late insurance goals from the foot of Sedlacek. In the 59th minute, the junior chipped in a crossing pass from Natalia Walters (South Barrington, IL) at the far post. The assist was the first collegiate point for Walters.
Just two minutes later, Sedlacek struck again to cap the scoring with her team-leading ninth tally of the season. She scored in similar fashion to Lowstuter, finishing a rebound off an initial shot by junior D Jacqueline Luehrs (Arlington Heights, IL) that hit the crossbar.
The Flyers outshot the Minutewomen by a decisive 29-7 margin, including an 18-3 edge in the first half. Sedlacek paced the offense with seven shots while Kozlowski collected five. Lindsey Fairweather took four shots for UMass.
Senior GK Stacy DeLuca (Maryville, IL) played the first 61 minutes in goal and made two saves to earn the victory and improve her record to 10-1-0 on the season. Sophomore Sarah West (Downers Grove, IL) played the balance of time.
