The University of Dayton women's tennis team finished off two rounds of singles play along with a round of doubles matches today at the Miami University Invitational in Oxford. There is no team scoring at the weekend event, but the ladies will finish off a round of singles coupled with two rounds of doubles on Sunday afternoon.
In the first round of singles UD had five winners and three losers. Sophomore Megan Gray picked up a win at third singles over Christa Ames of Wright State (6-2, 6-3). At sixth singles, freshman Carrie Trigilio was a winner over Alana Carere of Austin Peay (6-2, 6-3). Kate Mellion defeated Jessica Lee of Wright State (6-4, 6-2). And at twelfth singles, Amanda O'Connell took her match against Austin Peay's Mackenzie Kurth (6-3, 2-6, 10-6).
In round two, UD's lone winner was freshman Mackenzie Hoops at eleventh singles. Hoops won over Mackenzie Kurth of Austin Peay in a three set tie-breaker (5-7, 6-3, 14-12).
In the first round of doubles, the Flyers saw two teams come out on top. The pairing of Gray/Dzubay, at seventh doubles, won over Rzezniczek/Carere of Austin Peay (8-6). The team of Mellion/Trigilio also came up with a win, picking off Whelpley/Kurth of Austin Peay at eleventh singles (9-8[7-3]).
