DAYTON, Ohio -
Dayton saw its 19-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday as it fell to Miami (Ohio), 3-1 (24-30, 26-30, 30-26, 18-30) in its final regular season match in front of 512 fans at Frericks Center as part of the A-10/MAC Thanksgiving Challenge.
UD had the fifth-longest active winning streak in the nation entering the day and the second longest in program history, but will end its regular season with a 24-10 record. The 2005 Atlantic 10 Champion Flyers will make their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships next weekend. Dayton will learn its First Round opponent and site on Sunday when the NCAA bracket is released live on ESPN News at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The Flyers will enter the postseason as one of the best teams in school history. UD has tallied the most kills (2,065) and assists (1,893), the fifth most digs (2,060) and eighth most blocks (340.0) in team history.
However on Saturday, Dayton's offense was stifled by a stingy Miami defense that held UD to a .115 hitting percentage overall and just 54 kills in the four-game match.
Three Flyers reached double figures in kills led by 2005 A-10 Player of the Year Faye Barhorst with 16 kills while hitting .379 and finishing with six blocks (three solo, three assists).
A-10 Second Team pick Robynne Green followed with 13 kills, four blocks and a service ace. Classmate Jamie-Lee Richards added 11 kills and four blocks of her own as Dayton won the battle of the net with a 14.0 to 6.5 advantage in blocking.
A-10 Setter of the Year Nicole Schott dished out 44 assists on Senior Day. The Roscoe, Ill. native also had two blocks and a service ace in her Frericks Center finale.
A-10 Honorable Mention selection Adrienne Green led the Flyer defense with 22 digs. She also became just the second player in school history to record 500 digs in a single-season as now has 503 on the season and 942 for her career, which ranks ninth-best all-time at UD.
Sophomore Amanda Kenny had 13 digs while freshman Brittney Scheeringa added 10 of her own as both players reached double figures in digs for the second consecutive match.
