Dayton, OH - The Dayton Flyers men's tennis team rolled to a 5-2 victory over Duquesne Saturday in Pittsburgh. The Flyers swept the doubles competition while winning four singles matches.
Leading the squad was Tom Murphy at #1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Duquesne's Michael Ortega. Rob Altenau fell to Duquesne's Devon Peightal 6-3, 7-5. Jonathan Khoury picked up some momentum with his win over Rodrigo Lacayo by a score of 6-4, 7-6(7-4). Next came James O'Connell's 6-1, 6-2 victory over Paul Clough and Rex Cabrera's win in three sets over Adam Townsend, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Rob Altenau and Khoury defeated Duqesne's pair of Rob Ojeda and Peightal, 8-6. Murphy and O'connell defeated Clough and Lacayo by a score of 8-4. Jamison Downs and Chris Jones sealed the doubles sweep by defeating Duquesne's Mike Belmonte and Joe Esposito by a score of 8-3.
The victory over Duquesne extends the Flyers' winning streak to five. The team currently stands at 13-6 overall this spring and face cross-town rival Wright State University on Tuesday. This match has been moved indoors and will begin at 5:30 p.m.
