Dayton, OH - Sophomore Tom Murphy and senior Rob Altenau (pictured) led the Flyers to a victory Tuesday against cross-town rival Wright State in Dayton's final match of the 2004-2005 season. The Flyers won five singles matches and two of three doubles matches to capture a 6-1 victory.
Tom Murphy at #1 singles won his fifth consecutive singles match over Wright State's Quincy Jones by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Senior Rob Altenau followed up with his #2 singles win over Lance Koetter, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(10-3). Fellow senior Jonathan Khoury came through at #3 singles with a win over Kevin Teufel, 6-1, 6-2. James O'Connell earned his ninth consecutive singles win after defeating Craig Smith in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. At #5 singles Jamison Downs won his match over Dan Sundersingh of Wright State by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, Murphy and O'Connell teamed up at the #1 spot to defeat Quincy Jones and Lance Koetter by a score of 9-8(7-3). Jamison Downs and Jonathan Khoury captured the win after defeating Wright State's #2 pair of Craig Smith and Dan Sundersingh by a score of 8-4.
Dayton's win over Wright State is their sixth in a row and puts the Flyers at 14-6 overall for the year. Their next match to focus on is the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament this Thursday through Sunday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville Pennsylvania. Match play is to start at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
