Cassie Gross was selected to the 2005 Great Lakes All-Region Softball second team as voted by the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association. She is now eligible for a spot on the NFCA All-American Team. Gross was also named to the 2005 All Conference Team.
Gross, a centerfielder from Carmel, IN finished her career atop UD's all time homerun list with 16. In 2005, she clubbed nine homeruns and led the Flyers in batting (.369) all season long. She also led the team with a .664 slugging percentage. She was fourth in the A-10 in homeruns, fifth in batting average and seventh in on base percentage. Gross also drove in 27 runs this season placing her eight in the Atlantic 10 in RBI. She had a 13 game hitting streak and ended her season on a five game hitting streak and had 13 multi games.
The All America Team will be announced May 30. The University of Dayton softball team had one of its most successful seasons in 2005 as it finished the season 20-18-1. UD returns 17 of 19 letter winners for next season.
