DAYTON, Ohio - With the start of the 2005 season just one week away, the UD volleyball team looks to sharpen its skills Saturday at Frericks Center with its alumni match. Dayton won both the 2003 and 2004 Atlantic 10 Championships and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years. The Flyers are looking to become just the fourth school in Atlantic 10 history and the first since 1999 to win three consecutive A-10 Titles.
For the first time in program history, Dayton had multiple players earn AVCA All-America honors in 2004. Both of those players will be featured on the UD sidelines this season and in the Alumni Match on Saturday.
2004 A-10 Player of the Year and A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Player Christy Utnage will serve as an undergraduate coach for the Flyers this season and play for the Alumni Team.
Junior Faye Barhorst returns to the Dayton roster after leading the A-10 in hitting percentage, blocks and points last season.
The alumni match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the public at Frericks Center. Admission is free and doors will open at 6 p.m.
