LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Dayton cross country program ran in the Greater Louisville Classic this afternoon in Louisville, KY. The women's team finished 5th with the men coming in 16th.
Finishing first for the women for the second time this year was freshman Amy Kempf (18:54), who finished in 21st. The four other scoring runners for the Flyers were sophomore Corey Fullenkamp (19:10), freshman Anne Oltman (19:23), senior Sarah Kessler (19:38) and junior Meg Watkins (19:36).
The defensive specialists for the women were juniors Emily Haas (19:47) and Maggie LaSelle (19:52).
The team winner for the women was the Ohio State University with a total time of 1:31:37. The individual winner was senior Shannon Womack from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a time of 17:03.
Leading the men for the third meet in a row was freshman Mike Andersen, who finished in 57th with a time of 25:58. Also scoring for the Flyers were juniors Eric Contreras (26:05) and Brian Gilchrist (26:40), sophomore Daniel Sammons (26:52) and freshman Matt Peters (27:03).
Scoring as defensive specialists for the men were sophomore Billy Przybyla (27:12) and junior Matt Manning (27:14).
The winner of the men's race was Wesley Korir, a sophomore from the University of Louisville, with a time of 23:46. the overall team winner was the University of Tennessee with a total time of 2:03:52.
Next up for the Flyers is a trip to Delaware, OH for the All-Ohio Championships on October 7.
