DAYTON, OH - After a week's wait, the University of Dayton Softball team will get to open the 2006 season on Friday at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic in Charleston, SC. Dayton plays the host College of Charleston at 3:00 p.m. in the first game, and will meet North Florida at 8:00 p.m., which is available on Gametracker.
On Saturday, Dayton will face East Carolina at 6:00 p.m., then Marshall at 8:00 p.m. The C of C Cougar Classic wraps up Sunday with Dayton against Akron at 11:30 a.m.
Last weekend, the Flyers were due to open with a doubleheader at Belmont on Saturday, but weather forced a cancellation. Those games will not be made up.
The Flyers will be on the road for the College of Charleston Softball Cougar Classic, the Eastern Kentucky Invitational, and the Orlando Rebel Games -- a total of 20 games -- before opening the home portion of the 2006 schedule on March 21, against Wright State at UD Softball Stadium.
UD returns 17 of 19 letter winners for this season including senior pitcher Melissa Myher and sophomore first basemen Christine Eggers. Myher was tabbed as a 2005 Academic All Conference selection and posted a 2.11 ERA with a 15-10 record and four shutouts last year. She pitched 169.1 innings while striking out 127 and walking only 44. She's second all-time at UD in wins and third in innings and strikeouts, while sixth in ERA. For more, view the
