DAYTON MEN'S TENNIS REBOUNDS TO DEFEAT IUPUI 7-0

After a week off, Dayton men's tennis traveled to Indianapolis on Friday to defeat IUPUI in dominating fashion. In dropping just one match, the 7-0 win broke a string of two consecutive defeats the team endured to open the spring season.

The Flyers swept the singles front, with junior Tom Murphy remaining undefeated on the season at first singles. He won his match with Javier Saab of IUPUI by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (6). Sophomore James O'Connell also took his match at second singles against Ross Gehlhausen 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, junior Rex Cabrera beat Ronnie Pedro 6-2, 6-1. SeniorJamison Downs was also a winner at fourth singles defeating Tsuyoshi Yamabe 6-1, 6-1. The fifth spot was occupied by freshman David Peyton who won his match against Zach Breneman 7-5, 6-1. At sixth singles, freshman Brad Roby polished off Joe Horvath 6-4, 6-0 to complete the sweep.

At doubles the Flyers took two of three from the Jaguars. Murphy and Downs teamed up to take their match with Gehlhausen and Pedro 8-4. Peyton and sophomore Chris Jones also took their match against Yamabe and Nick Tarvin 9-8 (7).

The win puts the Flyers at 1-2 on the season heading into their match with Ball State in Muncie, Indiana on Saturday. Dayton will look to even their record against the Cardinals before returning home to play five straight matches at the Dayton Center Courts.
