FLYER FOOTBALL SPRING GAME SLATED FOR SUNDAY

April 5, 2006

Spring practice for the University of Dayton football team will conclude Sunday with the Flyers' first spring scrimmage in thirty years. A change in Pioneer Football League regulations permitted full contact workouts for the first time, and coach Mike Kelly, his staff and his team will use their last contact opportunity to hold an intra-squad scrimmage.

UD will take to the Welcome Stadium turf Sunday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. EDT to warm up, and the scrimmage will begin at 2:15 p.m. EDT. There will be no kicking plays during the scrimmage, which is expected to go for approximately an hour.

Admission to the scrimmage is free.

This is Dayton first spring game since going non-scholarship in 1977.

The Flyers finished 9-1 overall, and 3-1 in the Pioneer Football League's North Division last season. UD had its school-record 29th straight winning season, extending the Flyers' school record. That ties Dayton with Florida State with the longest such streak among Division I football-playing schools. UD was ranked second in the nation in the final Sports Network and Football Gazette NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major rankings.

Dayton will open the 2006 season on Saturday, September 2, when the Robert Morris Colonials visit Welcome Stadium.
