DAYTON, OH - The Dayton softball team was swept by Toledo in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at UD Softball Stadium. Tami Roudebush extended her hitting streak to 13 with a double in game one and a two-for-four game two. Mollie Schrank went five-for-six on the day.
The Flyers are now 8-17 on the season after the 9-3 game two loss. The Flyers fell in game one, 8-7.
In game two, Toledo opened with a run in the second on a home run down the left field line by Alison Hess.
Dayton responded in the bottom of the second, as Blair Crabtree and Lauren Schneider opened the inning with a pair of singles. After a ground out moved up the runners, Ellie Malchow reached on a fielding error by the short stop, loading the bases. Schrank beat out an infield hit for an RBI and with the bases still loaded, Shalyn Adams singled down the left field line to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead.
But the rest of the game was all Toledo. A walk and three singles plated two runs in the fourth, and Valerie Moxim hit a three-run home run in the fifth.
The Rockets tacked on three more in the sixth, on five hits. Gina Muratori hit a two-run double and Erica Singer followed with a single to plate Muratori to make the score 9-3.
The Flyers collected 12 hits in game two, but left 10 runners on base. Only one of UD's three runs was earned against winning pitcher Stephanie Moore. Melissa Myher was saddled with the loss, allowing 12 hits. Erin LaFayette pitched one inning of hitless relief.
Roudebush and Tamsyn Kellough were each two-for-four. Crabtree and Schrank turned in two-for-three efforts in game two. Roudebush's average has crept up towards .400, resting at .397, with her 13-game hit streak still active.
Dayton will play host to two Atlantic 10 teams from Philadelphia this weekend. Saint Joseph's visits UD Softball Stadium Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Flyers and the Temple Owls square off on Sunday at noon.
