DAYTON, Ohio -
The support from a record crowd of 1,341 fans at Frericks Center lifted Dayton past Xavier, 3-0 (30-26, 30-15, 30-19) in Atlantic 10 volleyball action on Friday night. UD improved to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in A-10 play with its 15th consecutive conference victory.
Playing in front of its second home crowd of the season that surpassed 1,000 fans, UD was energized to the tune of a .305 team hitting percentage and 15.0 blocks.
Dayton was led on the offensive end by 12 kills and a .312 hitting percentage from Jamie-Lee Richards. The junior also added two service aces and three block assist to account for 15.5 points on the night.
Sophomore middle blocker Bethany Akerhielm hit .364 to accumulate 11 kills and two blocks for the Flyers which now hold a 33-20 all-time record against the Musketeers including six consecutive wins in the series.
Senior middle blocker Faye Barhorst tallied eight kills on just 16 swings while adding eight blocks for UD which remains at home to face Wright State on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
The top ranked team in the Northeast Region according to www.richkern.com shined defensively throughout the night as it held visiting Xavier (9-8, 2-1 A-10) to an .055 hitting percentage overall and a .000 mark in both the second and third games.
Dayton's duo of junior Adrienne Green and sophomore Nicole Bateman led all players with 11 digs each while the Flyer front row was supported by six blocks and two service aces from junior Robynne Green.
